Their Answers:
Dee “On Top” Lopez
1. I’m not really known as “On Top” in ALABRA. I was originally “In the Zone.” Don stole my nickname! They would call me “In the Zone” because whenever I give a talk or speech, I get caught up, I go “In the Zone” raw! Well, since I’m stuck with “On Top” now, I’ll answer the question anyway. I guess it’s because I stay “On Top” of things… I take control of my life… And with these five headstrong boys, you gotta be headstrong as well and stay “On Top”. It means nothing lewd, okay?
2. Marketing redefined is the complete package–the best of worlds. It’s establishing relationships, both within and without. It fuses fun with professionalism, parties with profits, camaraderie with business. It’s establishing genuine friendships and relationships with fellow members, directors, and applicants. As well as being the top choice for corporate sponsors. Redefining Marketing is exactly what JMA is about. And it’s what makes us great.
3. Two D’s: Dreams, which are of the soul. And Desire, which is of the heart.
4. My disdain for mediocrity.
5. To make great leaders out of each and every JMAer. For everyone to uncover his/ her individual strengths, talents, and realize his/ her full potential in JMA.
6. Pretend you’re drunk. Haha, just kidding! Be confident. Smile and talk to the person.
7. Everything. Haha joke. I used to run 10 km marathons…(before I became active in JMA, hehe)
8. My ideas.
9. I wanna become a UP professor.
10. Hahaha, no way is it gonna come out on print ever. :p
Cuayo “on the prowl” Juico
1. Honestly, the rest of alabra just christened me with the nickname so I really don’t know. I’d like to think that it’s because looking past what I am today, I still have a lot of potential still waiting to be tapped, but one day I’ll be running on all cylinders and shock the world and be destined for greatness! Okay so in all likelihood that’s not it. But then that’s for a whole other article.
2. Understanding marketing goes beyond creating mutually beneficial relationships
between two entities. It should go beyond sponsorship and marketing in the business sense. It’s about establishing friendships and trust with those around you.
3. My will to succeed.
4. My undying passion for this organization.
5. For everyone to pay their ARs! Perfect Gen Meet attendance! Ah manalo ng jackpot sa lotto. Dami eh! Hmm.. Perhaps for JMA to be the perfect instrument for charting a better path and a better future for all its members.
6. Be the JMA President! Haha kidding… Just be in the right place at the right time.
7. My wit and charm.
8. My shaved head that’s really nice to touch.
9. I’m in love with Joseph Gutierrez. Hot niya eh. Wahaha!
10. Getting caught by the guard in one of those supposedly empty parking lots in the fort. Goddam.
Melo “in the bank” del Gallego
1. In the bank because I always deliver. When I say I’ll do something, it’s like money in the bank. Yabang? Haha… I think it’s cause I’m always in the bank.
2. Understanding marketing goes beyond creating mutually beneficial relationships
between two entities.
3. Pressure. I’m really a pressure junkie and I always like doing things that challenge me.
4. How I can be hard headed at times. It’s what lets me make mistakes that I learn from.
5. All members are active. Add more and more KIDS. All members become competent and persistent marketers. Members have the ultimate love and affinity for the org and its purpose.
6. “Kumain ka na? Kain tayo…”
7. My willingness to face pressure. No fear!!!
8. My eyes? Don’t know…
9. I’m a virgin.
10. Dancing with Maka… Shet… Nothing like it… Ask bouncer… haha
Gelo “in the know” Villar
1. I know (almost) everything that happens under the JMA sun. Personally, i believe that being part of JMA’s execom is not only about work. An essential aspect of leading is by knowing its members’ personal and private life. (and yeah trust me, you all have super interesting secrets! ) P.S. I know how to keep a secret!
2. A great marketer knows how to redefine marketing by redefining one’s self. Marketing is not simply about building relationships and making connections. An essential part of it is building your brand so that eventually, you’ll be someone else’s connection. In simple terms, let others need you and allow them to market for you instead of you seeking for them.
3. The desire to be the best.
4. Loving myself too much.
5. For the organization, i want us to be undisputedly the best in all aspects of what we do– not only internally but externally. It’s easy to say that we’re the best but it’s a whole different story if we want others to acknowledge that as a fact.
For the Externals committee, my dream is simple. I just want to deliver the extraordinary in terms of events, projects, and committee spirit. I want the members to have fun with what they’re doing by finding that passion to overcome their own “socially-constructed” limitations and reach their fullest potential as manifested in their work. At the same time, enjoy the fruits of their labor through a sense of fulfillment given only by a team that is fueled by professionalism and camaraderie with one another.
For all our members, remember that college life is only a training ground. The real achievement for me is when i see my contemporaries in JMA become successful in the real world. There will come a time, perhaps 25 years from now, when corporations, governments, and even countries will be ruled by JMA-ers. That would be the real manifestation of our motto “We Lead.”
6. Imagine this scenario:
You’re in BA with your drobee. Ask her: are you sleepy?
If she says yes, ask if she wants to go to the tambayan.
If she says no, insist that you want to go to the tambayan with her.
Once you’re in the tambayan, wait for her to lie down on one of our stinky sofas. then pull the other sofa, connect it to her sofa, creating this sort of cage or playpen for both of you to lie down in.
If she lies down sideways facing you, good. If not, find a way for her to face you.
When she closes her eyes, wait for a while then hold her hand.
If she doesn’t react, hold on. She’s enjoying it.
If she looks uncomfy with your hand holding hers, still hold on but pretend that you’re sleeping.
Watch her sleep, when she opens her eyes, make sure the first thing she sees are your eyes looking back at hers.
If she stares right back at you. Close your eyes. And turn the tables on her. let her wait for you to stare back at her. She’ll crave for it.
If she gives you that weird reaction, act like your asleep. Then do it again.
If she freaks out, then you executed my drobo tip all wrong!
If she smiles. Good job! Execute another alabra drobo tip!
7. My lovely girlfriend
8. It’s all about my charms
9. I’m such a kid at heart.
10. I have alot of wild experiences. I cant even pick which is the wildest. Basta!
Jun “in the south” Guevara
1. “In the south” is a tribute to my southern roots. You see, I hail from a place where hot days are dealt with by sitting back and drinking anything refreshing. Then as you gulp down your drink and feel it rushing down your throat like a raging river running through the woods, you hold up your glass, stare into the liquid, and say: “SOLID!”
2. The term “marketing” was coined by a certain Mark Guggenheimen back in 1674 and comes from the word keting which means sketing or skating in English. Just as skaters cut the ice with their blades, marketers must learn to break the ice with their target market in order to win their hearts and minds.
3. Me. I drives myself to school everyday. Haha No, honestly, it’s the challenge of success. If someone else can do something, why can’t I? Also, I must admit that I have a fear of failure. We hype up dreams so much that the thought of not realizing them can cause instant depression.
4. Hmm… My goofy periods during brainstorming sessions. I’ve learned that some of the best ideas come out of jokes or playful banter. Pressure or stress can hinder creativity. Sometimes you need to step away from it all. Great ideas find you. It seldom happens the other way around.
5. I would love it if JMA could send 30 kids through school, grade school to college. I would love it even more if we produced an oblation scholar.
6. Hi, sorry, but there’s a big stain on your shirt. Want me to help you take it off?
7. I was named Most Obedient in kindergarten! Haha!
8. Sense of humor, I guess? But it’s also my biggest liability since whenever I try to be serious, people think I’m still joking. It sucks whenever I spill my heart and people laugh cause they think it’s a punchline. B*tches. Hahaha kidding! :p
9. I have a huge pen is blue.
10. I once woke up and couldn’t move a single muscle. I couldn’t even shout. After a while, I just started wiggling my toes until I could move my legs, then my arms, then my head. It was terrifying. True story.
Don “in the zone” Ingal
1. “In the Zone” was coined by my fellow Alabra. I guess they realized that sometimes I get in the zone when it comes to JMA especially when the need arises. From being sabaw or sleepy, I get in the zone and no one can stop me. Haha
2. Marketing is about establishing and fostering relationships. It involves more than Sponsorship Marketing, the kind JMA is well-accustomed to. The JMA brand of marketing should stand for the ties within our organization and to those in our external environment. It’s about having that “red mark” in everything that we do.
3. I am driven by my own goals. As a person, I was brought up with this conviction to be my best and to put my heart in everything that I do. Knowing that I can make a difference, little or small, drives me.
4. I wouldn’t apologize for being a Junior in this Execom. The notion that I am immature or unprepared for my responsibilities is something I will disprove in my term. It’s not about seniority, it’s about the passion and love for JMA.
5. Simply put, for all JMAers to be active and driven to do their best because they finally understand what JMA is really about.
6. With my inexperience in the Art of Drobo, I would have to base my answer on the drobo tips I have observed from some JMAers. The best one so far as perfected by _ _ _ _ _, is offering to drive people home.
7. If I had to boast about something, it would have to be getting 163 votes out of the 164 that were cast in the past JMA elections. I’m really proud of this achievement because it shows that I was supported by almost all JMAers and this pushes me to prove that their votes were worth it.
8. My eyes and eyelashes, enough said
haha seriously, I guess knowing all JMAers by name and face.
9. I wanted to become a priest before
10. Aside from the 4 AdHocs I’ve been to, my wildest experience would have to back in Grade 6 when we went to Manila Zoo, grabe, it was so wild talaga
